FAQs
Why do you call yourself Fine26
We have chosen to work with the iron based elemental number FE-26 - FERRUM, which is one of the strongest and most flexible metals on the planet. This allows us to bend and shape each piece while still keeping its strength while also keeping it light weight. Our artworks are not made from plain old iron.
What is the metal you use ?
We use 1mm Ferrum 26 that is thin enough to keep it lightweight but strong enough to withstand the shaping from blacksmith.
We also combine Aluminium with Ferrum 26 to reduce the weight of certain products.
Can I put it outdoors ?
Yes, you can place our products outside.
However please be aware that the colour will fade over time if in direct sunlight. As we use a combination of water and oil base paint. We recommend you apply a clear lacquer 2-3 times per year to prolong the vibrancy of the original colours. If you are hanging our works outside, It best to have them in an alfresco environment protected from the elements or place them inside.
All of the metal integrated into our products goes through a series of treatments to protect them from oxidizing ( rusting ). To begin we with powder coat each piece of the metal before bringing the piece to life with our vibrant colour tones, giving the piece a unique tone and texture. Once we have finished applying colour we add extra protection with a film of zinc phosphate to seal the metal.
Step 1 The Ferrum 26 is first dipped in to an acid solution to clean all the material
Step 2 It is the rinsed off thoroughly to wash all the acid off
Step 3 It is now we dip the clean Ferrum 26 into zinc phosphate to solution to coat the material with a film to prevent the metal from oxidizing.
Step 4 Then we take our treated metal in to the powder coating stage where the coating is applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow
it to flow and form a "skin". We used this technique to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.
Step 5 Once the base colour has been powder coated it is then painted by our artistic team to give it the final desired look.
Will it rust ?
Every precaution has been taken to treat the metal from rusting but all metal will rust over time and the colour will fade. If the zinc phosphate film has been scratched oxidization can happen. If you place the art outside in full exposed weather conditions it is possible that the colour may fade overtime as we use a combination or water and oil base paints. We would recommend you use a stainless steel screws out side.
